Can Dentures Make You Look Younger?
- December 20, 2016
When you were a child you may have looked up in wonder as your grandparent removed their teeth – how did they do that? As you grew up, you probably associated dentures with old people. Now that you’re in need of dentures yourself, you feel conflicted. You’re not ready to see yourself as an “old person.” But today’s modern dentures look more natural and feel more comfortable than dentures of the past.
Visit Dr. Hlavac at our Concord, CA dental office for your first – or next – set of dentures. Call us today at 925-391-2718 to schedule your consultation.
How Dentures Can Make You Look Younger
Your risk of losing a tooth rockets upward after the age of 35. As you begin to lose teeth, you may experience trauma. Sometimes, a missing tooth isn’t all that noticeable, but it’s hard to hide when you’re missing all of your teeth.
Your teeth fill out the inside of your mouth. When you lose them, your cheeks can sag inward, giving you a gaunt, aged appearance. Missing teeth can also increase the fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth. Not to mention that a smile that is all gums isn’t as flattering as a smile that is filled with beautiful, healthy teeth.
Dentures make you look younger by:
- Filling out your cheeks
- Stretching the skin around your mouth
- Giving you a full set of teeth
You’ll also feel more carefree when enjoying a bite to eat in public if you found “gumming” your meals down embarrassing. And certainly nothing makes you look younger than maintaining an active social life!
How Dentures Can Make Your Life Easier
No matter how much time has passed since you lost your teeth, you can’t help but remember how much easier life is with teeth. When people lose their teeth, they also become malnourished. Without teeth they tend to only be able to consume liquid meals or mushy food. The other issue that comes along is that much of the food they consume that is not soft does not get properly chewed and can lead to gastrointestinal issues.
Dentures make your life easier by making it easier for you to eat a variety of foods. Dentures also make your life easier by making you feel more confident. Dr. Hlavac will fit you with a pair of dentures so natural-looking that you won’t have to feel self-conscious in public. Our metal-free dentures are more flexible than traditional dentures, so you’ll find the fit more comfortable.
You may also be a candidate for dental implant dentures if your jawbone is healthy enough. Dentures held in place by dental implants – instead of saliva or paste – have a stronger, more stable hold.
How You Can Get Dentures
Your first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hlavac. He will examine your mouth and discuss your options with you. You might find that dental implants are a better choice for you or maybe a dental bridge. If dentures are right for you, we offer full and partial dentures.
If you have a tooth or two that needs to be removed before you get your dentures we can refer you to an oral surgeon. After you’re fitted for your dentures, you can return for as many adjustments as you’d like until your dentures have the perfect fit.
How To Care For Dentures
Once you have your dentures, you’ll still see us every six months for a follow-up appointment. We can make sure your dentures still fit right and are in good condition. If you don’t see Dr. Hlavac regularly your dentures may begin to fit poorly and cause irritation to your gums.
After meals, you can rinse your dentures and then return them to your mouth. When you clean your mouth, use a toothbrush with soft bristles on your gums. At night while you sleep, soak your dentures. You never want to sleep in them. In the morning, be sure to rinse them off first thing. Avoid leaving your dentures anywhere they’d be exposed to extreme heat like in your car.
Dentures are not the only teeth replacement option we offer. You could also:
- Get dental implants that bond with your jaw and help slow or stop bone loss.
- Get a dental bridge that uses your healthy teeth to support your replacement teeth.
No matter your choice, just know that you don’t have to go without teeth any longer. Call Dr. Hlavac at 925-391-2718 for an appointment.
